"You’ll Never Walk Alone" was originally written by Rogers and Hammerstein for the 1945 Broadway
musical 'Carousel'.  Gerry Marsden and his Pacemakers performed the song in Liverpool clubs during the birth of Merseybeat. "The audience would just stop, stand and listen. It had this immediate effect," says Marsden. Released in October 1963, YNWA was the Pacemakers' third consecutive number one and nowhere was it more popular than on the Kop, as fans sang along with the PA before matches. When it fell from the top spot, the Liverpool "Kopites" continued to sing it and YNWA has been played and sung at Anfield ever since.

Interestingly it has also been adopted by many other clubs including, Celtic FC, Feyenoord Rotterdam,
Ajax Amsterdam, TSV Alemannia Aachen, FC St. Pauli, F.C. Tokyo, St. Joseph's College,
Hunters Hill/Australia, and AEK Athens (AEK fans adopted a Greek version of the song}

When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark

At the end of the storm
Is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark

Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
Tho' your dreams be tossed and blown

Walk on, Walk on
With hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone

Walk on, Walk on
With hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone
